Ah, Mike, if you do a close reading of my post, you will see that I am actually proposing a "little structure and space" just like you say you need. I am, however, not suggesting that dogged determination to achieve at an uber-high level and at breakneck pace are key to a well-lived life.

I agree with Chris that much of this is semantics, but hey, often language is all we have as a means of communicating our intentions, ideas, and ideals.

And, as always, I am happy to witness your life's unfolding, dear friend. May 2012 be the Year of Mike :)

Hi Mike,

This sounds great - congrats on finding your own way.

Sometimes I think the differences between these various approaches are more semantical than anything else. The reality is that once anyone begins thinking actively about their own self-development, they're already in a group of people who live intentionally—and I think this is a good group to be in, however it's expressed.

All the best for a great 2012!

Thank you for this article. I am struggling with the gift giving of the season as everyone wants to give us and our kids 'stuff'. I have been in the process of minimalizing for almost a year now and have much more to go, however, I don't want to go backwards due to Christmas gift giving. When asked the inevitable question of what we want/need for Christmas, I am going to be prepared with other ideas that we would really appreciate but not ones that I will have to store/dust!
